Hal Weiner
Hal was a legendary bowler who blazed a remarkable trail of feats in the years of the late 1940s to the late 1970s. Teaming with the legendary Rochester bowler Jonny Quinzi, they finished seventh in the doubles competition at the American Bowling Congress tournament in Chicago in 1953. In 1972, Hal finished 11th in the All Events catagory at the ABC in Milwaulkee. During that competition, Weiner bowled a 280 game, a very rear feat in that era, especially under tournament conditions.
In 1956 Hal was part of the Jenny Five Team that won the New York State championship. He also won three Monroe County titles, one Brunswick singles title, and tied Walter Ward for the Mancuso Singles tournament in Batavia. His career high was 783 and his high single game was 290, remarkable for that era.
Another rare achievement was once bowling 17 games in three different cities during a 24 hour period. In the afternoon, Hal took part in a tournament on Ridge Road, then drove to Buffalo for a Simon Pure event, later taking the night train to Detroit where he paticipated in a B’nai B’rith sectional tournament. He jhad a combined 200 average for the three events.
Hal Weiner was voted into the Rochester Bowling Association’s Hall of Fame in 1977.
