Svetlana Khvalina
Svetlana Khvalina an outstanding tennis star and scholar athlete
Lana starred for the Brighton Baron’s between 1995-2000. She played five of six years at #1 Singles, capturing five Section V Singles titles, earning a record six-time All-County selection and was the Monroe County Player of the Year in both 1999 and 2001. Lana was also a Lester B. Harrison Award winner in 2001.
Continuing on at the University of Maryland, Lana played for three years due to an early graduation, achieving a 4.0GPA. She had a career 62-20 singles record and 46-28 in doubles. As a freshman she led the team to a 20-3 record in singles and 19-2 in doubles play. She was named on the First Team All-Conference in singles and doubles in 2002 and 2003. Lana was also named the Northeast Conference Player of the week three times, the American East Conference Scholar Athlete of 2004, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete of 2003 and the first ever recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 2004.
Other notable achievements: Lana is a Three-time Rochester District Open Women’s Champion in 2000,’02’and ’03, a Five-time Rochester District Open Women’s Doubles Champion 1999-2003, the Empire State Games Gold Medalist at #1 Singles in 1999 and the JCC Maccabi Games Gold Medalist in Rochester, 1999.
Lana concluded her education at William and Mary School of Law in May of 2007.
