Peter Liebschutz

When Peter attended Brighton High School in the 1950s, he excelled in various sports. He earned varsity letters in golf, football, baseball, soccer and basketball. He then attended Colgate University and played on its varsity golf team for four years, winning the univesity championship in 1957.

Peter was inducted in 1961 into the Rochester Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, as the very first person named to that body of outstanding athletes.

Over the years, Pete has won over 35 area tournaments including championships at the Irodequoit Country Club, Blue Heron Hills, and Cobblestone Creek. He also competed in the New York State Amateur the Country Club of Rochester Invitational, earning various medalist honors.

In 1961, Pete was part of the U.S.‘s first golf team to participate in the World Maccabiah Games in Israel, where he won one event and earned two second place finishes. In 1997, Peter returned to compete for a second time in the World Maccabiah games as part of a four-man Master’s team.

Pete made the 1997 Master’s team by competing in a qualifier at the Doral Country Club in Miami, Florida.

A Viet Nam vet, the Brighton resident has been active in numerous community endevors and is a past member of Colgate Univesity’s Alumni Corp. Board of Directors.
