Gabi Sankowski talented multi sport athlete
Outstanding soccer player, coach and referee … played for the Brighton Barons as a highly ranked Goal Keeper in Monroe County, continued as the premier Goal Keeper for Monroe Community College and the starting Goal keeper for Buffalo State College from 1994-1996, winning recognition in the SUNYAC. Gabi also trained with the Rochester Rhinos in the winter of 1995 and played in their charity exhibition match in 2005. His coaching career has taken him from the ranks of the Barons Assistant Boys JV Coach, Avon HS Varsity Boys Coach, the Maccabi International Games Coach, Brighton Varsity Girls Head Coach and the Rochester Rhinos Goal Keeper Coach. Gabi has been a referee for the United States Soccer Federation for over 20 years and is the Owner of In the Zone, which trains soccer goalies.
Gabi is an “A” level tournament winning racquetball player who plays nearly every day at the JCC. He also competes at the Penfield Racquet Club and at in Syracuse. He earned 1st place for Men’s A-Singles in 2006 and 2008 at the Penfield Pro Am Tournaments and took a 2nd place in the Men’s A-Open Singles in Syracuse Gold’s Gym State Tournament.
Being a fitness buff, Gabi is a part-time fitness instructor at the JCC and has run in numerous local area 5K and 10K races. It is no surprise that Gabi has finished first, second or third numerous times in his age group.
