Elaine Zack an incredible athlete, and scholar. Turn back the clock!
Elaine Zack’s mission is to educate and encourage other senior citizens, to get moving physically and mentally. Why not, she mastered the art.
In her 40’s, Elaine a mother of three, went back to college and finished her under graduate B.A. from SUNYBrockport, her Master’s degree in Education from Nazareth College and yet another M. A. in Liberal Studies fromSUNY Brockport. It was in her college years that her husband Stanley, a competitive fencer and cyclist encouraged her to try biking. Elaine took up biking and then running.
Elaine persevered and won Gold Medals for biking in the Empire State Games. Her biking personal best is when she took a 1st place in 1985 in the World Master’s Games and placed 4th at the 1989 US Cycling Federation Nationals riding 25 miles in hilly terrain.
Running became her passion. In 1979 she took a 1st place in a 10K race in her age group. In 1985, Elaine took a 1st in a Churchville 10K and a 1st in a Hilton 5 mile race. In 1990, she won a Silver Medal in the Empire State Games. She ran her first marathon at 60 years old! In 1991, she won a Gold Medal in the Empire State Games. And the accomplishments go on, winning Gold Medals in the 1998 Empire State Games in both the 800 and 1500 Meters. In 2003-’04 she was named the Greater Rochester Track Club Runner of the Year.
In her spare time, Elaine plopped down on a rowing machine and build up to being ranked number three in the world in her age class!
Elaine stays busy teaching self-esteem, fitness and nutrition. She taught at RIT, the Strong Museum and at numerous local and national fitness conferences.
Elaine still resides in the Rochester area with her husband.
